Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd claims Celtic fans make him laugh

Celtic’s 2-1 loss at Parkhead at the hands of the Rangers was clearly the lowest point of the Hoops’ season and they will surely be looking for ways to bounce back when they return to action in mid-January. Last Sunday marked the second time that the Rangers have dominated Neil Lennon’s side this season and by now it is pretty clear that the club needs to bring some changes if they are to avoid falling behind their Glasgow rivals in the title race.

In the wake of the loss, many fans have made calls for new signings in the January transfer window in order to strengthen the squad. And it will come as a huge surprise if the club do not bring in a few new faces this month. Riding high after Sunday’s result, former Rangers striker Kris Boyd though has taken this opportunity to poke fun at the Hoops fans.

Boyd wrote in the The Scottish Sun:

“Celtic supporters make me laugh, they really do. This time last week they were making out Jeremie Frimpong was so good he was the new Dani Alves. Christoper Jullien was a snip at £7million, while Kristoffer Ajer was worth three times that amount.

“That was nothing compared to what Odsonne Edouard was going to go for one day soon. But now? After losing to Rangers? All we hear from those fans and media cheerleaders is how the club needs to open its cheque-book and sign new players pronto.

“I’m sorry, but what exactly are you expecting to happen this month? Sure, Neil Lennon will add players to his squad, but for me the team he has now is as good as it’s going to get.”

The first step to improvement is admitting your shortcomings. And at the moment it is pretty clear that Celtic could do with a little more physicality against a side like the Rangers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the fans wanting new signings. In fact, regularly injecting new blood is important to prevent a squad from stagnating.

Mr. Boyd can have his little chuckle this time around though. After years of seeing his former club get clobbered by the Scottish champions, we cannot blame him for getting a little too excited about Sunday’s result. Although somebody should remind him that it’s just January.
