Fraser Forster Names His Most Satisfying Victory In A Celtic Shirt

Fraser Forster is known as La Gran Muralla or the The Great Wall, after the Spanish media nicknamed him as such following Celtic’s incredible 2-1 victory over Barcelona in 2012. Forster kept Messi, Sanchez and co at bay that night in one of the finest goalkeeping displays in Celtic history.

However, the Hoops stopper has told fans that beating the Catalan giants wasn’t his most satisfying win in a Celtic shirt. During a Q&A with fans on the Celtic Instagram account, Forster said the game that gets that honour is actually the Betfred Cup Final this season. “The League Cup final against Rangers! It was a tough game and to get the win and lift the cup was special,” the Englishman said.

Few could argue that Celtic’s greatest result since the 2003 UEFA Cup semi-final would have to be that defeat of Barcelona and seldom is anything more satisfying than beating the best team in the world in front of a raucous Celtic Park.

Perhaps the Betfred Cup result meant more to Forster due to his personal circumstances, having missed out on so much football through injuries and then falling down the pecking order at Southampton. The Betfred Cup was his first trophy since leaving Celtic and he was absolutely phenomenal in the match.

The goalkeeper has starred in multiple big games for the Hoops. He has been an integral part of the two victories over Lazio, whilst Forster has also played in several trophy winning matches and the Champions League last 16. It would be great if Celtic could secure his services on a long term basis, but his reported £70,000 per week wage, along with Southampton’s interest in keeping him, may provide stumbling blocks.
