Well known and highly respected social media account Swiss Ramble, who posts financial figures for football club’s across Europe, has revealed on Twitter the income Celtic have garnered for their exploits in Champions League group stage football in 2022/23.
The figures are shown to be considerably higher than that of our main rival in Govan; amassing a full £8 million more than them due to the 10 year coefficient stipulation for historic participation. Now I wonder why that is? No jokes at the back please…especially from that rascal at the AGM who yesterday asked Michael Nicholson in which year theRangers were founded? Well done that man. This should become a tradition with the same question being asked every year until we get an answer!
A fantastic piece from @videocelts … I suggest that Celtic fans who want to criticise that question understand that what Joe did is what this job requires. Life should always be a little uncomfortable for those men, even when they are taking plaudits.https://t.co/LNR5t4F8n7

Anyway, the Hoops managed to grab two draws this year which wasn’t a great taking over the six games on offer, truth be told. Although it did still manage to snag us £1.9 million or so to put into the pot. Every little helps as they say! The participation in the Champions League tournament itself came in at circa £15 million which is another much welcomed income boost.
And Scotland, being part of the UK TV market pool, received 10% of the overall pie. That means that Michael Nicholson and the number crunchers at Celtic are able to add another £6 million into the final takings. All in all, a very decent haul for the club considering the fact of where we were at merely a couple of seasons ago.
Have a look at the Swiss Ramble spreadsheets:
Scotland is allocated 10% (€6.8m) of UK TV pool, based on population. #CelticFC receive slightly more as the first half is split on final position in last season’s Premiership. #RangersFC lost all 6 group matches, so receive no prize money, while Celtic get €1.9m for 2 draws. pic.twitter.com/IY9CRNCsEZ

The return of Scottish clubs to CL group stage led to €29m earnings for #CelticFC and €20m for #RangersFC. Main difference is UEFA 10-year coefficient, where Rangers suffer from not qualifying for Europe for first half of period. Highest amounts from €15.6m participation fee. pic.twitter.com/7eicFuKvKD

Remember too that Celtic have the income from the three 60,000 sell-out matches from the Group F Champions League home matches to add to these totals.
