Greek journalist rules out Vasilis Barkas loan exit

Vasilis Barkas will not be leaving Celtic on-loan this summer, according to Giannis Chorianopoulos. The Greek journalist and Editor in Chief at Sportime newspaper took to Twitter to update on the 27-year-old goalkeeper.

The Celtic goalkeeper was ousted from the team on multiple occasions last season since joining from AEK Athens in a £5m deal last summer. However, under Neil Lennon it was clear that he had failed to settle and as a result struggled behind a makeshift defence, resulting in the Greek goalie being made a scapegoat for the poor results. Now, Postecoglou appears ready to offer him a shot at redemption at Paradise.

Celtic have played three goalies since Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster left. Two players that trained with Forster in the 19/20 season – Scott Bain and Conor Hazard played as makeshift No.1s, replacing Vasilis Barkas who was meant to be the like-for-like replacement. Ange Postecoglou has started Barkas in the opening two pre-season games and he has impressed, playing in an advanced role – pressing forward as a sweeper keeper.

Hopefully, Barkas can show his worth and come good, proving people that he was worth the fee paid out last summer.
