Gus Poyet names Celtic striker Giorgios Giakoumakis in Greece squad

The list of Celtic stars getting international call-ups today continues to grow, with Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate getting selected for the Japan squad for their World Cup qualifiers while Carl Starfelt got a call-up for Sweden and now it’s Giorgos Giakoumakis whose outstanding form for Celtic sees him called up to the Greece squad.

Matt O’Riley has alos earned a call-up to the Denmark Under 21s as his Celtic form has not gone unnoticed.

“New Greece manager Gus Poyet has named Giorgios Giakoumakis in his first squad ahead of fixtures vs Romania & Montenegro. Well deserved,” the outstanding Everything Celtic reports.

The way things are going it will be a quiet Lennoxtown with Anthony Ralston – remarkably overlooked by Scotland boss Steve Clarke given the alternatives – kicking about with a few others.

Giorgos Giakoumakis after a difficult start at Celtic due to ongoing injury issues, has started 2022 in splendid form with that hat-trick against Dundee and a double on Monday night against Dundee United in the Scottish Cup, that took his total goals for the season to nine, with plenty more to come.

The Greek striker was also outstanding in the 3-0 win over theRangers on 2 February and could have a major ay in the three upcoming matches against the latest Ibrox club.
