Gushing, Two Faced Tom English and Liverpool’s ‘vastly over-rated’ Virgil van Dijk

FORMER CELTS Virgil Van Dijk, Jason Denayer and Moussa Dembele were all involved in the Champions League last night. It was an uncomfortable evening for the Denayer and Dembele as Lyon lost 5-1 to a rampant Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

However it was a much better night for Big Virgil who scored and looked a class act in Liverpool’s fantastic 3-1 win in the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich.

While every Celtic supporter has always been convinced about the big Dutchman’s class, that was not always the case among the Scottish hacks. Take Tom English for example.

Last night he was gushing about the attributes of the Liverpool star.

“Fair play to Virgil Van Dijk,” English wrote. “I knew he was a Champions League finalist in the making the minute I saw him.”

Well, that isn’t exactly correct is it Tom? You see you did comment on Virgil Van Dijk but not to say that he was “a Champions League finalist in the making” from the first minute you saw him. Far from it, in fact.

Back in August 2014, when Virgil van Dijk was still a Celtic player, but being linked with a move to England, English was keen to pour cold water on the praise that the Dutch defender was receiving.

“Plenty will disagree with me, but Virgil Van Dijk is vastly over-rated,” English wrote.

“A nice footballer, but too often gets found out by decent strikers.”

Can’t be many decent strikers in the English Premier League or The Champions League this season, Tom?
