“Had to go” Chris Sutton speaks out on Neil Lennon leaving Celtic and makes a plea to the fans

There’s always a positive feeling when a club legend is appointed as your manager, but it can also make it much worse when the time comes to part ways.

There’s no doubts that Neil Lennon is viewed as a legend at Celtic due to his playing career and he’s done well in management too, but the last few months may have soured that.

A lot of the fans have started to turn on him and some of his responses in the media were a bit strange and even inflammatory at points, so there was a feeling that he was starting to erode a lot of that goodwill.

It now looks like he will be leaving the club and feelings will be raw for a while, but Chris Sutton probably gets it right in this Tweet:

He did have to move on as the club was going backwards and it may have been too much for him to turn it all around, so it should be the best thing for Celtic going forward.

That doesn’t mean that all of his good contributions in the past have to be written off, and it’s likely that the relationship will be repaired and he’ll be viewed in a better light as time goes on.
