Haggis Horror and being a Celtic Home-Bhoy

NIR BITTON is desperate to sign a new contract at Celtic and continue to play under Neil Lennon. In an interview in this week’s Celtic View the Israeli speaks about his desire to remain at Celtic

“Every season is important for a football player but, for me, this season is important because I finish my contract at the end of it,” the midfielder come central defender explained.

“I obviously want to stay at Celtic for as long as I can. I see my kids speaking English, which makes me very happy, so it’s good for all of us, and as long as it continues I’ll be happy.

“But, of course, it’s football so you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow, so we’ll see,” Bitton told the new edition of Celtic View.

The likelihood of him getting his wish looks pretty high, especially as Neil Lennon is now back in charge at the club and sees Bitton as being a vital member of his squad.

He picked up an injury on the Beautiful Sunday win over the Rangers at Ibrox, and he was outstanding in that match playing alongside Christopher Jullien. Goals from Odsonne Edouard and Jonny Hayes made it a memorable after for the Hoops in Govan and Bitton is clearly hungry for more of the same – as indeed we all are!

You can’t beat a Beautiful Sunday!

The Celtic manager, speaking last month, said this on the Bitton contract situation. “Obviously we know about his contract situation and that’s something we’ll be looking to change as we go along too. Hopefully we can get it sorted soon.”

Other Celts who are entering the closing months of their existing contracts are Scotty Sinclair, Craig Gordon, Jonny Hayes and Calvin Miller and probably only our Dubliner is likely to be offered a new deal.

Scotty Sinclair is not even in the squad for this evening’s Europa League tie against Lazio and will be looking at an exit in January.

Craig Gordon was the subject of a discussion in the media this week when a former England keeper reckoned that Gordon didn’t like Neil Lennon because he’s brought Fraser Forster back to the club and has installed him as his number 1.

Calvin Miller is unfortunately out with a long term injury and is likely to be released at the end of the season.

Meanwhile Celtic will be busy on a deal for Bitton, and indeed new, improved contracts for both Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard, two players who will be high on various shopping lists down south and on the continent over the next few transfer windows.

Bitton was in the wars with Ross County at the weekend when he came on as a substitute and he’s likely to be on the bench this evening against Lazio.
