Hapoel Be’er Sheva hoping to sign Celtic’s want away defender

Hapoel Be’er Sheva are hoping to jump to the front of the queue to sign Celtic’s Hatem Abd Elhamed. Celtic signed the player from the Israeli side in the summer of 2019 and now he could be set for a return, according to The Scottish Sun.

The right back reportedly wants to leave the club in order to be near his family, who have been living back in Israel as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Elhamed has played but he has looked as if he was struggling with something on his mind and now it appears clear that he is missing his wife and young son. The 29-year-old was signed for £1.6m and the club will want to recoup some of that fee.

The report also names Beitar Jerusalem as being interested too but due to their supporters extreme right wing views, we imagine this move would be highly unlikely. Elhamed started his career with Maccabi Haifa but it appears that there will be a great amount of interest from his homeland.

Neil Lennon will need to look to the transfer window to bring a couple more options in to compete with Jeremie Frimpong for a starting slot with the 10IAR chasers.
