Happy Birthday Danny McGrain

One of the best full backs in football history, Danny McGrain turns 70 today!

He racked up 663 appearances in Celtic colours, winning 7 league titles, 5 Scottish Cups and 2 League Cups. McGrain was voted into the World XI decided by the BBC in 1974, he also played in many European Cup late stage ties with the Hoops and racked up an incredible amount of assists, particularly for Kenny Dalglish.

McGrain overcame a fractured skull, sustained in 1972, and a diabetes diagnosis in the mid-70s. He goes down as a Celtic legend, a versatile Scotland defender with over 60 caps, and an icon in world football.

He has recently been part of the Celtic backroom staff and brought the presence of a Quality Street Gang member to the club, alongside Lisbon Lion – John Clark .

We wish Danny many happy returns and good health during this difficult time.
