Hartson rips into Celtic’s lack of planning over shambolic squad depth

He’s a player who used to win a lot at Celtic Park back in the glory days – and so to see the club struggling now is something John Hartson can’t stand.

The Welshman, christened Big Bad John in his playing days at Paradise, scored 109 goals in 201 appearances at Paradise alongside three Premier League titles and a couple of Scottish Cup winner’s medals.

Truth be told, the current squad could not be further away from the glories that he witnessed back in his five-year spell in Glasgow, with no trophies last season (bar the 2020 Scottish Cup final which had to be delayed due to the pandemic, thus counting as a title for the year prior).

And with a poor start to this season, Hartson has continued to show his dismay and distrust in the current Celtic side given Ange’s men lie just sixth in the table after a poor string of results.

Hartson tweeted: “Another disappointing result…need to get our best players on the pitch it seems to win football matches. As the squad is simply not deep enough and today not ruthless enough. 2 points dropped.”

With no-one permanent signed to replace Kristoffer Ajer, Odsonne Edouard only being replaced by Giorgos Giakoumakis and three midfielders departing to be replaced by James McCarthy, it seems things won’t get better for Celtic in the near future.

I hate to be negative in times like these, but Hartson is right – the short-term future does look quite bleak if things are not sorted out.
