Has Greg Taylor replaced Boli Bolingoli as the starting left-back?

One position that has been a cause of worry for Celtic this season is left-back. After being nailed down by Kieran Tierney over the past several seasons, his departure to Arsenal left a huge hole in the left side of defence. Boli Bolingoli was brought in from Rapid Vienna to fill in that hole but after struggling in his first few appearances for the Hoops, the club was almost forced to bring in Greg Taylor as well as reinforcement.

Bolingoli has improved since then though and appeared to have won Neil Lennon’s trust. But the manager’s recent admission could set alarm bells ringing for the Belgian. As reported by Daily Record, Lennon said:

“No he’s just not in the squad at the minute.

“You know, he’s just having a bit of time out to get his top form back.”

On the other hand, Taylor has been impressive in recent appearances. He was absolutely spectacular against St Johnstone, putting in dangerous crosses into the box all game, one of which resulted in Griffiths’ beautiful volley to put the Hoops 3-0 up. And the boss was full of praise for the Scot:

“That was his best performance for me. He can be delighted with it.

“We were working on him a little bit on Tuesday, and he put three or four superb crosses in, which I hadn’t seen before.

“We worked with him on that. He’s a willing learner and I thought his all-round game was very good.”

After a performance like that, it will be very difficult for Lennon to drop Taylor in the near future. But the left-back position is still very much up for grabs. One bad performance and the door could be open for Bolingoli to get his place in the team back.
