Highlights as Celtic restore three point lead despite draw after Allan McGregor clangers

Celtic spurned the chance to open up a six-point lead over Rangers this afternoon as Shaun Maloney’s Hibs held Ange Postecoglou’s side to a goalless draw. This result meant that Rangers travelled to Ibrox knowing a win would cut the lead of Celtic at the top of the table to just one point.

Celtic were not at their fluid best, something that will have frustrated the manager (as well as the support). The dropped points were seen as being a slip-up in the title race after Celtic had sealed the initiative last weekend.

However, events back across the M8 would hand the advantage back to Celtic. Rangers were 2-0 ahead at half-time thanks to goals from Morelos and Sakala. However, a goal and an assist from Woolery pegged Rangers back to allow Celtic to restore their three point lead.

Allan McGregor was at fault for both goals. The seasoned-pro failed to claim a cross from Woolery, which was between the keeper and defender, allowing Jordan Roberts to tap home. Then, he was beaten at his near post trying to kick away the effort from Woolery.

Celtic will need to up their performances in the coming weeks as the manager looks to consolidate the position at the top of the league table.

  1. Wondered what Ange was seeing today that he only made one substitution. Given that Taylor contributed little or nothing, either defensively or going forward plus the number of overhit crosses coming from both wings and poor passing generally, why didn’t he take Taylor off, move Juranovic to left back and bring on Ralston to right back. Ralston would at least have changed things up as he can see a pass and can hit decent crosses.
