Hindsight and recent developments show how dreadful this transfer dealing was for Celtic

It’s wonderfully easy to do recruitment in hindsight and make claims that a club should’ve known better, but it really looks like Celtic had a nightmare when it came to adding a new striker last summer.

Ivan Toney was regularly linked and we’re all familiar with the fact that he seems to score every single week for Brentford and he’s destined for the Premier League next year one way or the other, while Albian Ajeti hasn’t lived up to expectations at all.

Immediately hindsight shows us that the wrong decision was made, but some recent developments just rub it in even further.

A report from Football Fan Cast looked at some comments from Peterborough chief Barry Fry, and he states the obvious by saying that Celtic will regret that decision:

“He would have been a sensation because Toney doesn’t only score goals, he makes goals. He doesn’t only score goals and make goals, he’s also the best defender we’ve had.”

“He’ll go to the very top, Ivan Toney, that’s for sure. I’m sure they [Celtic] do [regret not signing Toney]already. I’m sure they regret it, not breaking the bank for him.”

That report also states that he’s likely to be sold for £30m in the summer, so it appears that Celtic have missed out on a great striker and a massive sell on opportunity as well.

West Ham will already be pleased with themselves for offloading Ajeti to Celtic, but there’s an extra cruel twist in this saga as other reports stating that Toney could be headed to West Ham this summer.

It’s not the only transfer mistake that was made last summer, but it might be the worst one when you look back at it.

  1. What expectations did we think ajeti would bring, he was a total flop at West ham, who must be laughing at us for paying 6million, and has been and will continue to be at CELTIC.
