‘Hip, hip hooray, the best is still to come from me’ says a fully fit Griff

LEIGH GRIFFITHS ON HIS INJURY PROBLEMS

“The calf problem was all to do with my hips. The specialist identified it straight away and looked at how we could rectify it.

“My hips were so blocked, that my calves and hamstrings were doing double the work.

“I wasn’t getting the full range of movement. That is why my calves were going either side. It wasn’t just one specific area. Both sides were going at different times.

“Hopefully, now that the hips have been released and the muscles are flowing again, I will be back sharper with more movement in my legs.

“I am hoping the best is still to come from me. With the muscle being released now and unblocked, it is going to give me a lot more movement in my legs.

“Hopefully working with the manager and fitness staff means, come pre-season, I’ll be flying and back to my best.

“It’s been a frustrating few years. I’m feeling good, playing well, scoring goals and helping the team get three points. Then suddenly, bang, they go and I’m out for three or four weeks at a time. It was a bit longer this time.

“But I am hoping that is it done now and I can move forward. Hopefully I won’t have another problem again. I have trained for the last two and half weeks now and I’m fully fit. The manager said I have been looking sharp.

Griffiths is fit again too!

“Against Ross County at the weekend, he just told me to go on, get minutes under my belt and show everybody I’m still here and what I can do. Hopefully I can be a big part of the run-in.

“It is an exciting part of the season to be involved in. We need to win our next two league games to put us in good stead for the league title.

“The Scottish Cup semi-final is going to be massive for us. It’s going to be a tough game.

“Hopefully, we’ll get to the Cup Final and win it again.

“If we reach the final, I will have nine games to go to reach that 100-goal mark too. If I get a good run in the team, I will hopefully hit that before the end of the season.”

GOOD NEWS FOR McLEISH AS GRIFF TARGETS FRIENDLIES IN PERU AND MEXICO

“That is my aim. With the amount of football I have missed this season, I don’t think it would be a problem to get the extra minutes under my belt. They are two difficult games, but they are two exciting games.

“The travelling is a bit of nightmare, but I would be able to come back and still get a decent rest before we start pre-season. I’ve always said whenever I’ve been called upon for my country, I’m delighted to be a part of it.

“Hopefully at the end of the season, if I am called up, the manager will let me go. As the season draws closer to an end hopefully we will sit down and have a chat.

“Like I say, I have missed a lot of football, so I don’t think it will be a problem.”
