How much will Celtic earn if Moussa Dembele joins Chelsea?

Celtic have a lot on their plate this January. After being completely outplayed and beaten by the Rangers in the Glasgow Derby last Sunday, the club will be surely looking to add some players to their squad in this transfer window in order to tilt the Premiership race back in their favour. And they might have an unlikely ally in the form of Chelsea.

Moussa Dembele left Celtic to join Lyon back in 2018 for a reported £19.7 million. The Frenchman has done very well since joining the Ligue 1 side as expected, scoring 30 goals in 71 appearances for them. And his performances have caught the attention of Chelsea as Frank Lampard looks to bring in a new striker in January.

Lyon though will be reluctant to let go of their star striker in the middle of the season and it will take a huge offer from the Premier League giants to lure them into selling Dembele. That figure is expected to be around £40 million. That is more than double of what Lyon paid to Celtic for the Frenchman less than two seasons ago and would be hard for them to turn down.

Any move for Dembele would also represent a huge bonus for the Hoops, who will receive 10% of whatever Lyon end up selling him for. That sum could be around £4 million, a huge financial boost for a club looking to make some deals of their own happen in January. And while Lyon seem reluctant to sell the 23-year-old in the middle of the season, everybody has a price.
