“I thought we had a covering player,” Ange on Beaton’s red card call

Celtic 2-1 Motherwell – Kyogo and Reo Hatate got the goals that, despite a series of terrible misses, a bizarre own goal by Josip Juranovic with an assist from Joe Hart and a controversial decision by referee John Beaton to send off Celtic captain Callum McGregor in the closing stages before mysteriously finding five minutes of added on time (Motherwell had spent the majority of the first half wasting time yet nothing at all was added by the referee), Celtic are back at the top of the league looking down on theRangers….

Ange Postecoglou was happy enough with the three points but will know that these sitters are going to be costly at some stage and as it’s Champions League action against RB Leipzig next that could be a significant factor in the kind of midweek we are going to have.

“It’s not significant but it’s important. We certainly created enough chances to win more comfortably than we did and there were a couple of self-inflicted wounds probably made it closer than it should have been.

“We hit the post twice and could have been more ruthless and efficient in the front third,” Ange said to BBC Sportsound as he reflected on the 2-1 win over Motherwell.

On the sending Ange reckoned that with a covering man the red card was the wrong call but unlike the price fixing scammers from down river Celtic will not be throwing the toys from the pram.

“From my angle I thought we had a covering player but the referee has made that decision,” Ange said when asked to comment on the Callum McGregor sending off.

The own goal was incredible really, Juranovic cushioned the ball back to safety if Joe Hart hadn’t rushed out in the meantime in his desperation to get the play flowing. The two had a few words and incredibly this all happened moments after the classy Croatian had rattled the Motherwell crossbar with a brilliant, almost perfect free kick.

Reo Hatate grabbed the winner with a sensational strike from distance but showing signs of fatigue in the closing stages played the slack backwards pass that got McGregor sent off.

Still three points takes us clear and now it’s all about winning in Germany.
