‘I Used to Support Them’, Copenhagen Star’s Celtic Connection

Copenhagen’s Bryan Oviedo has revealed his Celtic connection in his international teammate Cristian Gamboa. The left back will be preparing for Celtic’s visit to Denmark on Thursday night in the Round of 32 of the Europa League.

Oviedo, as reported in the Scottish Sun, discussed his friend’s career at Celtic and how he began to support them while he was playing for the Glasgow club.
“Celtic are a really good team.

“In fact, I used to support them because a really good friend of mine, Cristian Gamboa, used to play for them.

“When I was playing in English football I would always watch them and catch their games on TV.

“I never got the chance to watch him at Celtic, although he was always inviting me up.

“They are a really strong team and it is going to be a huge test for us on Thursday.

“Cristian started well at Celtic and it was good for him at first, but for whatever reason, he didn’t get as many games as he would have wanted and had to leave. It was a hard time for him.

“But he never had a bad word to say about Celtic and told me what a fantastic club they are, with a great support. He told me their fans were the best in Europe.

Gamboa never really got a run of games under Brendan Rodgers for the time he spent at the club. He appeared to do well whenever he came in, despite being dropped into some big games – like Bayern Munich away.

The Costa Rican emphasised how important winning in Thursday would be for the Danes.

“It’s important we get a lead in the first leg.

“We have to be clever. We know Celtic are in good form and scoring a lot of goals, so our first aim is to keep a clean sheet and not concede.

“We know what awaits us in the second leg in Scotland. We’ll be playing in an intimidating arena and it will be difficult.”

Celtic face Aberdeen at Pittodrie today before departing for Denmark whilst Copenhagen lost 1-0 away to Esbjerg.
