Ibrox Legend Backs Celtic for the Title

Ally McCoist has dismissed Rangers title chances in the wake of the defeat to Hearts and home draw to Aberdeen that saw Gerrard’s men slip seven points behind Celtic. McCoist reckons that Celtic’s match winners will see them to their 9th Premiership in a row.

The former Rangers striker said to the Scottish Sun that his former club lack players that can change the game and rely too heavily upon Ryan Kent, James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos to provide for the team whilst Celtic have a depth of talent going forward.

“They have been far from impressive in the games I have seen against Stranraer and St Mirren.

“They were very poor against Hearts and I watched them on Saturday against Aberdeen.

“In the first couple of games they missed Morelos and Tavernier . There is no doubt about that.”

“I have said it for a while. Celtic have more potential match-winners in their team.

“Rangers are too reliant on Tavernier, Kent and Morelos.

“Celtic have more of a goal threat whether it is from Griffiths, Edouard or the boys round about them.

“I watched Rangers huff and puff against Aberdeen. I looked at Rangers bench and was asking if anyone could come on change the game? And the answer was I don’t really think so.”

It is a big blow for Steven Gerrard that one of his biggest cheerleaders in the media, as well as that of Rangers, is already doubting their ability to push on and challenge Celtic for the league.

Cetlic’s hard-fought 4-1 win at Hamilton opened up a 7 point lead over Gerrard’s side, albeit they have a game in hand which would make it 4 should they win.

Gerrard hasn’t had the home support turn on him like other managers have in the past but as the boos echoed around Ibrox on Saturday, he had a polite reminder of how angry his support would be if that gap grew further.
