Injury boost for Celtic ahead of Copenhagen clash as potential game changer ready for European debut

We’ve already seen this season that Neil Lennon has a side capable of getting some great results in Europe, and you could even argue that this Celtic squad is even stronger than before.

Anybody in the knock-out stages is there on merit, but let’s remember that Celtic defeated a good Lazio side home and away, so you have to feel they can beat anyone on their day.

The main difference between good and great teams tends to be pace and the ability to be effective on the counter-attack, so some squad news reported by The Daily Record should be a welcome boost going into the Copenhagen game.

Jeremie Frimpong wasn’t seen as a first team option at the start of the season so wasn’t included in the European squad, but he’s now included and he’s also overcome his injury and will be fit to play.

It’s not clear if he will start the game, but his relentless energy and pace has the potential to be a game changer in this tie.

Most people seem to expect that this will be a cagey affair where Copenhagen may dig in and try to keep things tight, so there won’t be a lot of room for the forwards to operate.

That leaves space for the full backs to get in to, and Frimpong’s pace will allow him to exploit that and we’ve seen that he has the quality to create chances, so his inclusion for this tie could be massive.

A right-back isn’t usually associated with having the ability to make the difference, but that shows just how valuable Frimpong has become over a short space of time.
