Injury crisis for Celtic ahead of Aberdeen clash as key man looks set to miss out

It’s a strange feeling just now because throwing away a 2-0 lead should feel like a defeat, but there is still a lot of positives for Celtic to take away from the draw with Lille.

It now looks like four at the back is here to stay for a while and that’s given the team a platform to build from, although Lenny might not have enough options to play with a back five if he wanted to right now.

There’s no sign of Christopher Jullien recovering from his injury for the Aberdeen game this weekend, and it now looks like Kristoffer Ajer is set to miss out too.

The Express have reported that the Norwegian centre back picked up a groin strain last night and he looks set to miss out, although there is some positive news with Hatem Abd Elhamed returning to the squad.

The Israeli defender was forced to self isolate for Covid-19 reasons so he might be short of match fitness, so it’s a big call for the manager to make in terms of Shane Duffy’s defensive partner.

There is no margin for error in this game so he might see it as a risk to rely on Stephen Welsh in such a big occasion, but the youngster hasn’t let anyone down and looks capable of filling in.

Celtic’s defence has been an issue this season so it would make sense if Lenny decided to go with experience, but at least the rest of the team is playing better and that should take some of the pressure off.
