International defender willing to snub eight other clubs to secure dream Celtic return this summer

It’s always nice to see a player redeem themselves and go on to earn a move back to Celtic after leaving as a youth, but signing Declan Gallagher has to split opinion.

He’s had his issues with the law and he didn’t look like he would be anything more than a lower-league defender, but he was one of the players who rose through the divisions with Livingston.

He’s been impressive with Motherwell and he also earned a lot of praise when he played for Scotland so he’s certainly a solid defender who’ll win his aerial battles and put his body on the line.

He’s a good Premier League defender, but we also can’t overlook that he’s 30 years old and he’s part of a Motherwell team who have been pretty dreadful this year, so could he actually be a good signing for Celtic?

It’s a nice story and perhaps he would offer some depth, but it looks like it has a real chance of happening after HITC confirmed he’s desperate to return to the club this summer.

On top of that they report that Celtic are still willing to press forward with their plans to re-sign him despite having no manager in place next season, although that may be due to the interest being shown in him.

It’s believed that he has eight other offers from clubs ranging from Hibs to Burnley so he’s certainly set for a step up at this stage in his career, but it looks like he has his heart set on the return to Celtic.

You can reasonably argue that he can do everything that Shane Duffy can do, while he might even be better and he won’t cost anywhere near as much so perhaps it could be a good piece of business for the club.
