Irish outfit confirm signing of promising attacker following Celtic release

Former Celtic youngster Jonathan Afolabi has signed for Irish side Bohemians following his release from the Scottish Champions. Afolabi, 22, joined Celtic in 2019 from Southampton but failed to make a first-team appearance during that time.

The FAI outfit announced the arrival of the Irish youth Internationalist on Friday as he looks to kick on after stalling at Celtic.

The player found game time to be limited but with pace and strength evident in the games that he played while on loan, he clearly needs a club that will offer him a level to play regular football.

Celtic decided that it would be best to monitor the striker’s progress by loaning him out with spells at Dunfermline, Dundee, Airdrie and Ayr United. The player made 59 appearances across these spells, scoring 10 goals. The option to extend was passed up by Celtic as it appeared clear that he did not have a future at the club.

Afolabi arrived at Celtic at the same time as Luca Connell, both were highly rated, but failed to make their way into the first team picture and have left the club in search of regular football.
