“It did not need to be mentioned,” Jacynta hits out at Sky Sports Commentator

Jacynta spoke to the media yesterday after being nominated by her fellow professionals for the PFA Scotland Women’s Player of the Year and the Celtic FC Women star took the opportunity to criticise Sky Sports commentator Ian Crocker for discussing her private life last Thursday night during the live broadcast of the Celtic v theRangers match at Broadwood.

We’re not used to hearing the private lives of male players discussed on Sky Sports or anywhere else so why should Jacyntas personal relationships be the subject of commentary during a sports broadcast? We have known about her relationship with fellow Celtic player for quite a while, indeed last week was hardly the first Celtic women’s match that Starfelt has attended, but he was there last Thursday and was shown sitting in the stand at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.

That’s fair enough if Croker simply talked about the Celtic defender going along to support the Women’s team but not to discuss his or Jacynta’s personal lives – again something that The Celtic Star has never done, despite providing extensive coverage of Fran Alonso’s side.

Even after Crocker’s indiscreet remarks last Thursday, we did NOT report on the matter, as much of the mainstream media did. We have also spoken to Jacynta many times but have always discussed football – the rest is none of our business and surely an experienced broadcaster like Ian Crocker should know that?

Crocker is likely to be at Celtic Park this evening as Sky Sports are broadcasting the match against Glasgow City, which will see Celtic Park smash the attendance record of just over 7,000 which is held by Hibs for an Edinburgh Derby match last season at Easter Road against Hearts.

Ian Crocker owes Jacynta and Carl Starfelt an apology for gossiping about their personal lives

The right thing for Ian Crocker to do this evening is to apologise privately to Jacynta, face to face then to make a public apology to both her and Carl Starfelt during his commentary of the crucial SWPL1 match, which is a must win for Fran Alonso’s side.

“I think that the TV stations need to focus on the football and not my personal life,” Jacynta said, at the PFA Scotland media event yesterday afternoon, as reported by Daily Record.

“I don’t think my personal life is anything to do with the game and it did not need to be mentioned. It shouldn’t be everyone’s concern what I am doing in my personal life.

“I want people to come along and help promote the women’s game rather than worrying about what I am doing away from the pitch. It is my private life. If you ask anyone who knows me, I am a very private person. I would love people to come to the games to offer their support but not to pry into things that are of my own concern.

“In the city every now and then people do come up to me. I like it when young girls come up to me and say that they enjoy watching us and that they come to the games. It is good to know that we are giving young players a chance to look up to female players playing for Celtic feels good.

“It feels like an honour and I don’t take it lightly,” Jacynta said.

Meanwhile theRangers beat Partick Thistle 3-0 last night to move three points ahead of Celtic and two behind leaders Glasgow City ahead of tonight’s match. Those three goals – aided by an astonishing ‘penalty to Rangers’ award reduces Celtic’s goal difference advantage over theRangers to just +2. Celtic need to win this evening if we are to remain as title contenders, so assuming that happens the goal difference advantage will be at least +3, maybe more going into the last two games.

If Celtic (who play Hibs away this Sunday and Hearts at home the following Sunday) and theRangers (who play Hearts away then Glasgow City at home) win all their remaining games then they will finish first and second, level on points with goal difference determining the outcome.

Tonight theRangers will be cheering on Celtic! It’s a funny old game and there’s plenty to talk about without going into the personal lives of players.
