‘It Has to be Tommy’, The Celtic Star’s Fan of the Week is Back!

The Celtic Star’s Fan of the Week is back. Last week we had Gerry for a chat about Celtic and next up is Gregor B from Skye.

If you would like to take part and answer some questions for us please email editor@thecelticstar.co.uk

Travelling from Skye hasn’t ruined Gregor’s appetite for following Celtic and still has his season ticket as well as travelling to Rennes, Rome next month and Cluj in December.

1. Earliest memory of Celtic?

My earliest Celtic memory is actually being invited to Barrowfield to train for Celtic at the centre of excellence when I was 7 or 8 years old but in terms of watching the team the game that stands out for me is the match vs rangers in 2008 where we won 2-1. I been training at Barrowfield that day and have fond memories of Nakamura’s incredible goal and then the drama with the missed penalty and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink’s late winner.

2. How did you end up supporting the Bhoys?

My love of Celtic has been passed down from my dad and older brother, they two would always be watching matches or going to them and also buying me all the strips from a very young age. My dad has a lot of Celtic memorabilia and would tell me Celtic stories of days gone by and this amazed me from a very young age.

3. What does a normal match day involve for you?

I don’t have a usual match day routine other than catching up with people who I haven’t seen since the last game and enjoying a drink after the match.

4. Best Celtic memory?

The most amazing memory I would say in my time following Celtic would be the Tom Rogic goal at Hampden vs Aberdeen, I think just with how the game went with going a goal behind and then the fact it was to win the invincible treble was incredible, to celebrate that with some of my closest friends and family members as well was something I will never forget.

5. Favourite player of all time and why?

My favourite Celtic player of all time even tho I wasn’t fortunate enough to see him play was Tommy Burns, not only was Tommy Burns an incredible player and servant to the club. but the way he was with younger players during his time as a coach was unbelievable. It has to be Tommy because of the impression he made on people as both a coach and as a man which has been highlighted a lot recently during ex players’ media interviews, this is something which I find incredible.

6. Favourite current player?

My favourite current player is Odsonne Edouard. I feel he plays such a vital part in the team with goals and is indispensable in our search for 9iar this season.

7. Best transfer in your time supporting Celtic?

I think the obvious answer is Henrik Larsson. Undoubtedly one of the greatest ever players to pull on the hoops and he was brought to the club for a fee of roughly 650k, for him to go on and score over 200 goals for Celtic was certainly money well spent.

8. Biggest transfer letdown in your time supporting Celtic?

One of the biggest disappointments for me in recent times was Mo Bangura. Celtic paid over 2 million pounds for him and he never scored a single goal in the few years he was at the club.

9. Favourite away ground?

I think the obvious choice would be Ibrox, although I grudge giving that club £50 every time the atmosphere is always electric and I have only ever seen Celtic win there so have pretty good memories. I also like being up in the highlands for matches as it is always a good laugh on the bus.

10. Do you think Neil Lennon will deliver Ten in a Row?

Yes. I think Celtic have recruited very well in the summer and providing we manage to hang on to the squad we have in January we will get to 9 and then push on for 10.
