“It was a brilliant moment,” Callum McGregor

“It was brilliant. I was super proud and I’m really grateful to the club for asking me to do it. You could feel the energy in the stadium – it was a brilliant moment”, Callum McGregor on unfurling League Flag today…

Callum McGregor spoke with Celtic TV after the match today against Aberdeen and expressed his gratitude to the club for letting him have the honour of unfurling the League Flag on such an occasion. In what was a fantastic and even emotional moment, the Celtic skipper drove the house nuts when he hoisted that flag up the mast pole this afternoon.

The pre-match build up was nothing short of tremendous today and it enabled the team to be fired up but also thanked for last season’s endeavours as we gear up for another tilt at domestic and European success. Callum was happy with the bright start but acknowledged the need to be more clinical just like his manager said before him. He said: “We started really well and in the first 35 minutes showed some sharp and really intense football.

“We got a little slack towards the end of the first half but in the second half we had good control, and Jota scored a great goal just to seal it, but I thought we had good control of the game at that point. It was a terrific strike. We know he has that quality and it was worthy of winning any game.”

He reiterated again the need to be razor sharp in front of goal and take your chances when they come: “A lot of the play was good. We had good control, playing through the lines really well but maybe just lacking that little bit of sharpness in front of goal.”

“It is early on but we want to keep drumming it into the players that when we get these kind of opportunities we try and put them away and be as ruthless as we can.”

When asked about his duties before the match had kicked-off on Flag Day, he replied: “It was brilliant. I was super proud and I’m really grateful to the club for asking me to do it. You could feel the energy in the stadium – it was a brilliant moment. Now it’s down to business, so let’s see if we can go and do it again.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
