Ange Postecoglou’s reaction to Flag Day at Celtic Park

Ange Postecoglou spoke after the match about the result and overall performance from his side on Flag Day in Glasgow’s East End. Jim Goodwin brought his team frustrate Celtic and at times that’s what they did today. However, we were guilty of being our own worst enemy at times today and Ange has acknowledged that fact in his post-match interview with Sky Sports this evening.

The boss felt were wasteful at times and he even managed to find constructive criticism for out superstar from Portugal, Jota.

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou said: “Yeah, it was alright. I thought for the first half hour we were good and we got the early goal. We were in control and aggressive and then we got a bit slack just before half time.

“I thought we addressed that in the second half. I thought we were quite wasteful in front of goal and we should’ve been a couple more clear. You can be patient but if you get chances then you’ve got to take them and i thought we had good chances that weren’t good enough when we could’ve changed the game.”

On the second goalscorer and his superb strike, he replied: “It’s a good goal. He’s (Jota) got that in his locker where he can take people on. I thought he started well but he was one of the main culprits to why we fell away. I said to the boys you can have lofty ambitions but you can’t be at 90% and achieve what we want. They addressed that in the second half.

Ange added: “It’s game one of 50 odd game season so there’s no one here more important than anyone else. Welsh has impressed in pre-season so it’s been important for him and Cam to be on it and they have been good. I thought he was strong.”

It was obvious from his reaction that Ange was for the most part non-plussed about today’s overall display. That bodes well moving forward and into the thick of the new season. Before we know it the games will be coming thick and fast, meaning we will have to be at our best every single day. We can be far better in front of goal than we were today and the manager recognises there is still work to be done.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
