It Was Magical – Broony Salutes Scotty Sinclair

Scott Brown has revealed his sadness in seeing teammate Scott Sinclair leaving Celtic but understands why the ex-Man City man decided to switch the Scottish Champions for the English Championship.

The Celtic captain told the Celtic View that he spoke to Sinclair before the Englishman made his Celtic exit in Dubai. Sinclair, 30, signed for Preston on a two-and-a-half year deal but Brown was excited for his Invincible teammate at the opportunity that Alex Neil’s Preston offered.

“I spoke to Scotty just as he was leaving. It’s sad to see him go, he was fantastic for the club, but he wants to go on and get games and that’s totally understandable.”

Sinclair was frozen out under Neil Lennon after being given a contract extension in the summer and saw his game time limited, something that would’ve hasten his exit from the club. Brown totally understands why he decided to go back down South to find regular football.

“The way it’s been more recently, he wasn’t getting as much game-time here, but these things happen in football.

“For him, it’s a great opportunity, and now he gets to go back down to England, be a part of something new and I’m sure he’ll thrive.”

Brown also reflected on Sinclair’s form at Celtic – especially in that first Invincible season under Brendan Rodgers.

“What he did for us at Celtic was outstanding, and in that first season he was frightening.

“He won Player of the Year during his time here as well, which shows how much of a top-quality player he was for us.”

Sinclair joined Celtic from Aston Villa and on the same day as he signed in 2016, he scored the winner versus Hearts on the beginning of an incredible journey that would see Celtic win everything without losing a game.
