“It would be a major coup”: Pundit praises Celtic’s chase for wonderkid this Summer

Celtic’s place in the transfer market means they well never be able to attract a top class player at the top of their game, but they are able to develop young talents and eventually sell them on for a huge profit.

It’s becoming obvious that the biggest teams are hoarding talents despite having no intention of putting them into the first team, so any club that shows a willingness to give youngsters a chance will start to become an attractive destination.

It takes a long time to build that reputation, but players like Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster, Moussa Dembele, Odsonne Edouard and Jeremie Frimpong have all come to Celtic and improved by playing, and young players will notice that.

Atletico Madrid youngster Rodrigo Riquelme has been attracting a lot of interest as his contract runs out this Summer, and a report from Football Insider has suggested he could be an excellent addition.

They were talking to former Kilmarnock defender Alex Bruce, and he seems to be a big fan of the youngster:

“It would be a a major coup, there’s no doubt about it. When you get a young player form Atletico Madrid it doesn’t happen every day. He’s got a lot of talent and he’s a good prospect.”

“If he’s had a good schooling at Atletico and he’s decent then it could be an exciting one for Lennon if he can get him in.”

“We’ll just have to watch this space. I’m sure Celtic have watched him if he’s being linked, they’ll know all about him, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

“If there are other clubs interested, and if he chooses Celtic, it would obviously be a big pat on the back for them.”

The report also states that Celtic are keeping tabs on the Atleti man and could look to sign him on a free transfer this Summer, and it sounds like he could be another excellent signing for the club.
