‘It’s Celtic’s Title’ – Former Premier League manager makes sporting merit claim

FORMER Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has weighed in on the title debate by emphatically slapping down claims to null and void the Scottish football season and stating that the league is Celtic’s. Redknapp, 73, spoke to the Scottish Sun about Steven Gerrard’s managerial reign at Ibrox so far but delivered a message that will upset the Gerrard and Rangers supporters.

The ex-West Ham manager says that Gerrard knew that he was always going to be up against it coming against a strong Celtic side but he believed that he had turned the corner after watching the Betfred Cup Final in which heroics from Fraser Forster gave Celtic a narrow 1-0 win.

“Rangers and Celtic are among the biggest clubs in the world and the pressure to be successful is intense.

“Stevie knew he was going in against a very strong Celtic, first with Brendan Rodgers and then Neil Lennon, who’s carried things on well.

“But he loved that challenge and he’s improved Rangers, make no mistake.

“I watched them batter Celtic in the League Cup final but lose, and then I also saw them win well at Celtic Park. I thought then the league would go all the way to the wire.

“Now, though, it’s Celtic’s title. I don’t care what anyone says.”

The message that Redknapp delivers is the obvious one and highlights that Celtic’s position of 13 points clear is thoroughly deserving of a 9th title in a row. The comments won’t have gone down well at Ibrox and their supporters will be reeling knowing that an independent party has stated the obvious.

Rangers are prolonging the decision to finish the season, which is having a detrimental financial effect on all clubs in the top flight in Scotland. St Mirren told the SPFL that they should disregard the moans of Rangers, Hearts and Stranraer, who have their own interests at heart.
