Jonjoe Kenny has insisted that Celtic show what they are capable of in Sunday’s game against Rangers at Celtic Park. Steven Gerrard’s side have already won the league title as a result of Celtic dropping points across the board this season but Kenny is targeting to prove that Celtic are still the dominant force in the country.
Speaking to the match programme, Kenny insists that the form book this season doesn’t matter as they look to beat Rangers.
“I didn’t see the game in January but I don’t think you need to think about it too much.
“You know what it’s about and you just need to focus on you, to go out there and show people what we’re about and how good we can be.
“I’ve seen how good the atmosphere is and the fans make up a massive part of the game.
“However, although we can’t benefit from their support right now, it’s important we still bring that passion into the game while keeping cool at the same time.”
This will be Kenny’s first experience of the game but without fans, it will be less of a spectacle. The Liverpudlian’s future is up in the air, he has been sent on loan by Carlo Ancelotti and doesn’t appear to have a future under the Italian at Goodison Park.
Kenny has been a steady acquisition and has a decent pedigree with spells in Germany. Celtic are unlikely to make any decisions on pursuing him until it is clearer who will be in charge of football operations or the first team.
The right-back slot is one in which Celtic are desperately needing cover with Frimpong leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £11.5m. Kenny is an exciting prospect and the club faced competition from Burnley to bring the player in during the January window. The Clarets were quoted £8m when they inquired about the former England U21 but that fee looks to have dropped as Everton look to get the player off the books.
