‘I’ve never experienced anything like that,’ Kieran Tierney

KIERAN TIERNEY celebrated his return to action after a two month lay-off by captaining Celtic, in the absence of suspended Scott ‘Won the League at Rugby Park’ Brown, to a 4-1 win over the Stealmen. And afterwards he said “it felt great being back.”

“Everybody’s been injured, I’ve had injuries before and it’s a frustrating time. It’s also a time to sit back, reflect and work hard and that’s what I’ve done the last two months. I’m just delighted to be back out there,” KT said.

“It was a tough game. Motherwell always make it hard for you and, with the position I’m in, I’m up and down. The plan was to get 60 minutes, so to get over that was brilliant for me. To come out feeling good makes it worthwhile.”

As Celtic skipper for the day, it was Kieran’s place to be heavily involved in the controversial stolen goal that the Stealmen scored at the second of the second half. Ethics went out the window and if you think back to their behaviour towards Scotty Sinclair after the penalty in the Betfred Cup final last season, their hypocrisy sticks this morning.

“I’ve never experienced anything like that,” Kieran said.

“I think I might have seen something like that a few years ago on Facebook or something like that and the team who scored gave them a goal back because they didn’t mean it.

“I spoke to Scott Bain after it and he told me he wasn’t sure whether he was going to shoot or pass it back. They went and celebrated. There’s not much we can do about that except the way we reacted. The first couple of minutes after it were a bit feisty, but after that we got the ball down and scored two more goals.

“You can’t ask for much more than the mentality and character we showed. The pressure was on us after that because we’ve conceded a goal so to respond the way we did was the best way to do it.”

Kieran Tierney was delighted for Ewan Henderson who impressed enormously on his full debut and correctly was awarded the Man of the Match by the sponsors.

“Hendo was magnificent,” KT said. “That goal and what happened afterward showed how good he was. He dug in deep.

“When I was on the bench I watched him make a run up the right wing. He didn’t get the ball and was the immediately there at left-back helping Jonny out. It just shows you how hard he works.

“He’s technically amazing, one of the best youngsters I’ve ever seen do that. He’s also got the dirty side of his game. He can work and tackle when the team need him to do that.

“He’s been round about us for a year or two now. I’ve seen him in training everyday so I know he can do it. In that position there are a lot of players and it’s going to be hard for any young boy coming through. He’s waited, done his time, performed and he’s got the rewards for it.”
