Jim Craig – Jerome Solis and Charlie Tully

Jerome Solis, often described as Celtic’s first Jewish player, signed full forms for the club on this day in 1931 after spells with Woodside Rovers, Dennistoun Amateurs and Maryhill Hibs.

Jerry played 9 times in total during the first-half of the 1931-32 season – a campaign always remembered for the tragic injury which led to the death of John Thomson on 5 September 1931 – and he scored three goals in those matches.

In February 1932, Jerry Solis moved across the Irish Sea to Coleraine.

On this day in 1924 in Belfast, Charlie Tully was born.

After some seasons with Belfast Celtic, Charlie came in to Glasgow Celtic in the summer of 1948 and over the following eleven years, he entertained the Celtic support with his skill and trickery.

In 319 appearances for the Hoops, Charlie scored 47 goals, picked up two Scottish Cup medals in 1951 and 1953, a League winner’s medal in 1954, two League Cup medals in 1956 and 1957 as well as having an adult fairy tale called ‘Tully and the Three Gers’ named after him in 1948.

Charlie Tully died in Belfast on 27 July 1971.
