John Hartson points out Celtic’s lack of ruthlessness

Ex-Celtic striker, John Hartson, took to social media after Celtic’s win in Perth against St Johnstone in the Cinch Premiership to congratulate the Bhoys on another three points in the league title race. Celtic won 3-1 in the end thanks to a brace from Liel Abada and a sweet strike from his countryman, Nir Bitton.

Celtic were cruising for most of the game and never really looked in any serious danger of dropping points. Having said that, Chris Kane’s goal was totally avoidable and came from a mistake from Swedish defender, Carl Starfelt. This was Carl’s first game back since his ridiculous sending off at Dinwall against Ross County a couple of weeks back.

The goal for St Johnstone did put everyone on alert before Bitton finished the contest with a lovely low-range effort that nestled just inside the goalpost. With Celtic causing their own problems, the game really should have been out of sight yet again considering the dominance of the possession Ange’s men enjoyed yet again.

John Hartson highlighted this fact after another game in which the Hoops really should have won by a higher margin. These missed opportunities have already came back to haunt us this season, having dropped points in Paisley just before Christmas against St Mirren. We must get into the habit of finishing teams off when we have them on the ropes and are producing wave after wave of attack.

Hartson acknowledged this in his assessment of the game yesterday at McDairmid Park and the big man knows a thing or two about taking your chances in front of goal when they come along!

Here’s what John had to say…

WE’VE GOT SOMETHING TWICE AS GOOD…

Thanks to everyone who ordered Harry Hood – Twice as Good for Christmas presents. If you got an Ange jumper instead then why not order this brilliant book by Matt Corr, or indeed David Potter’s biography of another Celtic legend Alec McNair – born on this day incidentally – from Celtic Star Books or from the official Celtic stores?

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
