Journalist provides Cameron Carter-Vickers update

We mentioned yesterday morning that Ange Postecoglou was looking at completing the deal to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers of a permanent contract in the January transfer window. Now transfer specialist Ekrem Konur has confirmed that Celtic are on the cusp of making Cameron Carter-Vickers short-term loan deal into a permanent one.

This comes after the big USA international defender has been a stalwart in the Hoops rearguard this season. Carter-Vickers has struck up a more than decent partnership with Carl Starfelt in front of new goalkeeper, Joe Hart.

The centre-back arrived from Tottenham Hotspur just like Hart back in the summer, after struggling for game time at Spurs. Last season he spent the season on-loan with Bournemouth in the Championship and the Cherries were keen on bringing him back to the Vitality Stadium were ex-Celt Ryan Christie now resides. Talking of Christie, apparently he tops the list in the Championship for shots at goal without actually scoring in the entire division, he’s had over 30 unsuccessful efforts so far. Most balls, as one Celtic fan noted, will be found on Bournemouth beach.

However, Cameron thought better of it and a taste of playing in front 60,000, European football, and a chance to win league titles was too much to turn down. He took the journey up the road to Glasgow and it has to be said, he hasn’t looked back since. An instant fit, the imposing American has been just what Celtic have needed for some time.

Strong in the tackle, unafraid of the physical side of the game, and willing to give endlessly of himself in pursuit of the winning of football matches, it’s obvious to see why Ange Postecoglou wants him to stick around for the long haul in the Angeball revolution. It seems Jota isn’t the only one Michael Nicholson will be looking to thrash out a permanent deal for this January.

There has been rumours abundant that Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, was looking for £10 million for the release of the new Celtic hard man. However, there has also been several contrary reports that say this is well wide of the mark and that the fee is likely to be closer to £6 million.

Nobody knows for sure the finer details of any potential deal, although that may change in the weeks ahead. For now though, Ekrem Konur has taken to social media to confirm that the two clubs have begun talks in an attempt to resolve the registration of the player. This of course is welcome news to the Celtic Support, who will no doubt welcome the permanent signing of a defensive powerhouse.

WE’VE GOT SOMETHING TWICE AS GOOD…

Thanks to everyone who ordered Harry Hood – Twice as Good for Christmas presents. If you got an Ange jumper instead then why not order this brilliant book by Matt Corr, or indeed David Potter’s biography of another Celtic legend Alec McNair – born on this day incidentally – from Celtic Star Books or from the official Celtic stores?

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
