John Kennedy admits transfer interest in ‘impressive’ St Johnstone midfielder

John Kennedy has admitted that Celtic have an interest in one of St Johnstone’s star players, midfielder Ali McCann. The League Cup holders and Scottish Cup Finalists have been impressive this season and no-one more so than Irishman McCann.

The 21-year-old has shown steel and determination in the middle of the park and caretaker Celtic boss Kennedy confirmed he was interested in bringing the young centre mid to Paradise. As reported by the Sun, Kennedy said that the talented youngster was on the club’s radar.

“I think watching him from afar, he’s an impressive young player who has improved with the exposure of first-team football.

“One thing for Celtic is, we always have to keep our eye on the best young talents in Scotland, that’s the first point.

“In terms of where you would want to scout, if there’s good young players in Scotland, then you want to make sure you know about them.

“He’s obviously one we know well of. There’s no decision over squads or anything but he’s certainly a good, talented young player.

“It’s good for Scottish football having a player like that coming through.”

Celtic have been linked with the energetic midfielder in recent weeks as they plan a rebuild in the summer. A new manager is likely to be in place ahead of the new season but a new central midfielder to replace Scott Brown. Tosh McKinlay has watched McCann as Celtic ponder a move and his performances for the League Cup winners and Scottish Cup Finalists will only help his chances of landing a dream move to Celtic. McCann could certainly provide an enormous amount of fight and drive to a Celtic midfield that has struggled this season.
