Johnny Kenny makes his Queen’s Park debut after completing loan move from Celtic

Johnny Kenny came off the bench in the closing stages to make his debut for Queen’s Park in their 2-1 victory away to Arbroath yesterday afternoon after the Celtic striker completed his season long loan deal earlier in the day.

With various English clubs keen on taking the Irish goalscorer on loan, it was perhaps a surprise that he opted for Owen Coyle’s Scottish Championship side, but yesterday’s result against an Arbroath side which was the surprise package of Scottish football last season, certainly indicates that the Spiders will have serious ambitions this season of challenging for the title and with it a place in the Scottish Premiership.

While the Scottish Premiership is essentially a two horse race, with only Hearts harbouring any sort of ambition to challenge the Glasgow giants, the Championship seems competitive from top to bottom and Arbroath after two draws and two defeats find themselves bottom this morning, yet will still have an eye on challenging!

That’s means that Johnny Kenny is going into a competitive league and one that will surely stand him in good stead for his ambitions to break into the Celtic side in the seasons to come.

Kenny was given a start by Ange Postecoglou in the opening pre-season fixture in Austria against minnows Wiener Viktoria and the Irish teenager grabbed a double and only Christopher Jullien’s quicker reactions prevented him from making it a memorable hat-trick on his Celtic debut.

Carlisle United led the chase from English clubs but Kenny instead is staying in Glasgow and will get the chance to make a name for himself in the Scottish Championship with Queen’s Park. The player signed for Celtic in January from Sligo Rovers on a five year contract and has played for the Celtic B Team on a couple of occasions this season, so will be match fit and ready to start for Owen Coyle’s side.

We certainly wish Johnny all the best at Queen’s Park and will keep an eye on his progress throughout the season.
