Jota fully focused on sealing title before worrying about his future

Jota has insisted that he is loving his time in Glasgow but hasn’t thought about his future beyond this season after the Portuguese winger scored once and assisted another during a crucial win in Dingwall. The Celts were dominant but couldn’t convert as freely as the manager would have hoped. One man that was in inspired form was Jota.

The 23-year-old earned the Man of the Match accolade after his first-half assist for Kyogo was followed up by a late goal to deliver all the points. A buoyant Jota told Sky Sports that he hadn’t thought about extending his stay, whilst insisting that he was loving his time at Celtic. Many supporters and pundits have been hankering for Celtic to exercise the purchase option on the winger and make sure that he is wearing the Green and White Hoops next week.

“I am just enjoying day by day. It has been a terrific season for me so I am just enjoying getting to know the people around me.

“Be a better person, be a better football player, I am learning every day with quality people.

“I don’t talk about that, I just want to enjoy and give everything for this shirt.

“As a football player, you need to keep your mind on the pitch that is all that matters.

“Contract things are for other times, so let me just play football and enjoy.”

Celtic have the options to buy both Jota and Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers. It would be excellent to retain the pair next season given their impact since arriving in Glasgow. Combined the pair would likely cost around £12m and you really think that if the league is clinched, the club would exercise the options over both given the arrival of Champions League money to the club.
