Journalist claims Jota ‘wants to stay at Celtic’ as report claims transfer ‘close to reaching completion’

How would you feel if Celtic came out of the transfer window with the three Japanese additions to the squad and the permanent deals for Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers signed sealed and delivered? We’d take that, wouldn’t we?

Well talks for both players are believed to be ongoing and in the case of Jota, Daily Record last night stated the deal for Jota is close to completion, in fact they seem so confident, two of their journalists, Craig Swan and Michael Gannon have put their name to the same article which states:

‘Celtic have been in talks with the Portuguese winger’s parent club over the prospect of turning that arrangement into a long-term agreement with figures around £6 million mooted. Record Sport understands those talks have progressed well in recent days and the 22-year-old’s full-time switch could be close to reaching completion.’

And this has been further confirmed this morning by Ekrem Konur via his Twitter account, and when it comes to Konur, a transfer specialist with a reputation to uphold, you can certainly trust he has genuine information to back up his claims. Konur is quoted as saying Jota himself is keen to sign on at Celtic –

“Celtic are continuing talks with Benfica over a permanent deal for Jota. The Portuguese footballer wants to stay at Celtic…”

Jota has simply been a revelation. On the field he’s been an outstanding addition to the team, eight goals and six assists certainly points to the basic stats backing up what we all see with our eyes, this lad is a genuine entertainer. While off it he appears to have embraced the affection shown by the Celtic support, even bringing his family to Pittodrie to watch him grab the winning goal as Celtic blew away their away day hoodoo in a game that marked a huge turning point in Celtic’s season.

There were of course fears when last week it was claimed Jota was back in Portugal with parent club Benfica having his hamstring injury assessed by their medical team, that Benfica may be trying to encourage Jota to stay, and with a Newspaper polling Benfica supporters’ and 72% stating they wanted Jota to remain with Benfica, it was understandable there would be concerns.

However, it seems none of that that has put a halt to any negotiations and it appears the permanent transfer of Jota may be nearing completion.

If that’s the case and Carter-Vickers follows suit it will be a clear indication of the levels of trust the Celtic Board are placing in Ange Postecoglou. To conclude these deals, added to the three Japanese imports, would make for a more than satisfactory transfer window, wouldn’t it?

And for those who missed this one yesterday on The Celtic Star, here’s a catch-up chance to check out the photographs given to this site by the former Celtic Director Tom Grant of the demolition of the old Celtic Park and in its place the emergence of the New Celtic Park which we know and love today. These photographs are fascinating and well worth checking out on the link below…

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
