‘Just rumours’ – Liam Donnelly rules out Celtic move

The Liam Donnelly to Celtic rumours came out of nowhere earlier this week when Belfast Live reported that the reigning Scottish champions were looking at the midfielder’s progress and could make a move to sign him this January.

Liam Donnelly has been spectacular this season. In 20 appearances for Motherwell, he has scored 10 times. On the other side of the coin, he has struggled with his discipline, being yellow carded 10 times and sent off once. But fans have always been suspicious about the authenticity of those claims, with the midfield depth already at Parkhead especially after the signing of Ismaila Soro from Bnei Yehuda.

And it looks like the player himself has not made too much of those rumours either. Speaking with The Scottish Sun regarding a possible move to the Glasgow giants, Donnelly said:

“I saw the links with Celtic, but they are just rumours. I don’t think there is too much in it. It’s flattering. It’s nice when you are linked with other teams. It shows you are doing all right and performing well. But I am fully focused on Motherwell and I need to keep trying to perform.”

As mentioned earlier, the midfielder has been great this season and would be a spectacular addition to any team. But with Scott Brown still going strong and Soro set to arrive, it does not look like the Hoops will be looking to strengthen in central midfield in this transfer window.
