Kieran Tierney signs for Basque side as Celtic look for 5 signings

Former Celtic star Kieran Tierney has signed for Basque side Real Sociedad. The 26-year-old has left Arsenal to join the San Sebastián side in a season-long loan deal.

Tierney was linked with Celtic during the transfer window but it felt as if it was wishful thinking from the Celtic support. Arsenal had made it clear that Tierney wasn’t part of their first team plans and would be looking to move him on permanently or, at the very least, cover his wages with a loan deal.

The La Liga outfit will pay Tierney’s wages, which are rumoured at 100k, but have no obligation to buy.

Meanwhile, Celtic are rumoured to be chasing five new signings before the transfer deadline. This would also mean that the club could register them for the Champions League as well as the league fixture against Rangers at Ibrox.

Celtic are believed to be looking for a left back, centre back, left winger, striker and a goalkeeper with departures set to take place.

The dire draw at home to St Johnstone on Saturday showed that Brendan Rodgers needs players to play his style of football. Whilst injuries haven’t helped, the manager has insisted quality is required if the club are to succeed. It’ll be an interesting few days.

For Tierney, Celtic will continue wait for the homecoming and watch closely to see how he gets on in Spain.
