Reported Celtic target lands in Qatar ahead of medical

Reported Celtic target Lyanco has arrived in Qatar to complete a medical ahead of a proposed move to Al-Gharafa. The Southampton defender was linked with a move to the Scottish Champions during the week amidst the injury crisis at the back.

However, according to Sports Zone on Twitter/X, the Brazilian will sign for the Qatari club.

Earlier this week, it was reported by Football Scotland that Celtic had been offered him as they looked to bring defensive reinforcements into the club ahead of the end of the transfer window. Brendan Rodgers has said that he wants quality players brought into the club.

With Maik Nawrocki, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh out until October, Rodgers has just new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke as one of his four central defender picks. Kobayashi and Liam Scales will back up until the trip return to action but the manager has said that he will look to bring someone in.

Especially with the UEFA Champions League Group Stages, Rodgers will want a quality arrival rather than someone to just make the numbers up. A loan with an option to buy is perhaps the most prudent. Alas, it will not be Lyanco.
