Kris Commons believes Celtic move would send shockwaves through Scottish football

Celtic are expected to make a few moves in the transfer market next month. One of these moves should be to buy a striker, with Odsonne Edouard having carried the load through the first half of the season in the absence of any genuine backup. And although a new striker would certainly improve the side, the first thing on their agenda should be to find a way to sign up Fraser Forster on a permanent basis.

The Englishman is currently on loan at Parkhead till the end of the season from Southampton. But after spending almost three seasons stagnating on the Saints’ bench, Forster would surely be happy to secure a permanent move back to Glasgow. He has been absolutely incredible since returning to the club and won them the Scottish League Cup almost single-handedly against the Rangers earlier this month.

The 31-year-old is arguably the best goalkeeper in Scotland at this point of time and securing his services would be a huge show of intent from the Hoops as they look to win a ninth straight league title this season and then go for a historical 10-in-a-row in 2020/2021. And former Celtic star, Kris Commons, believes that the move would send shockwaves through Scottish football.

As reported by Celts Are Here, Kris Commons wrote in The Scottish Daily Mail:

“It would send shockwaves through Scottish football if Celtic could clinch a deal to sign Fraser Forster permanently. It would be a blockbuster signning and a huge statement of intent from the club. It should be a matter of urgency to get it done as soon as possible.

“The stumbling block isn’t necessarily the transfer fee. Celtic have shown with the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien that they don’t mind spending a few quid on the right player.”

With all due respect, after seeing what Fraser Forster is still capable of, it will be extremely hard for Celtic to go back to Scott Bain this season. Craig Gordon, on the other hand, looks set to leave in January in search for first-team football and a possible return to the Scottish national team.
