NEIL LENNON is not aware of any new bids from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney and yesterday confirmed that the North London side will have no chance of signing The Celtic Star unless they start talking about a transfer fee much closer to Celtic’s valuation.
That all happened on the day when Manchester Utd bought a left back from Crystal Palace for £50 million and few in any Celtic Supporters would have been happy if Celtic had swapped Kieran Tierney for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Astonishingly the player we all reckon is a much better left back seems to be struggling to attract an Arsenal bid for half the fee that Manchester Utd paid to Crystal Palace yesterday for a player with no European or International experience and who hasn’t won any honours in the game – it really is astonishing!
Asked yesterday if there had been any other Arsenal bids for KT, Lenny said: “Not that I’m aware of. Arsenal are aware of what we value the player at. He’s on a long-term contract, he’s an asset and we don’t want to sell him.
“It’s going to have to take a lot more than what they’ve offered the first time around to give us a decision to make.
“I’ve had a chat with him as it can be a difficult decision and a bit unsettling. I’ve been there myself, so it’s important we support him regardless of the outcome.
“His fitness progress is slow. It will be a couple of weeks yet,” Lenny said in Austria yesterday as reported by Daily Mail, referring to the recover period that Tierney is still going through after his double hernia operation, which incidentally really should have been done much earlier in the year.
Rapid Vienna’s Boli Mbombo and Nice’s Romain Perraud are both being targeted by Celtic for the left back position. While Emilio Izaguirre gone, Celtic need to sign one and possibly two – depending on what happens with KT – quality left backs in this transfer window.
There is also interest in both full-backs at Kilmarnock although no moves have taken place yet.
