Turnbull’s Operation is ‘short-term pain for long-term progress’, ‘We still want him’ confirms Lenny

NEIL LENNON confirmed that Celtic still want to sign Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull after the deal took yet another unexpected turn when his medical which had to take place down in Manchester, revealed that he’s need minor knee surgery and would be out for 10-12 weeks.

“There has been a glitch with the medical as you know,” Neil Lennon confirmed yesterday. “David might need have to go through some short-term pain for long-term progress.

“We still want him here – me and the club as a whole.

“It’s still ongoing, there’s still discussions going on between the clubs. But we’re still positive that we want him here.

“It’s between the two clubs to try to get some deal sorted out. The situation is through no fault of David’s. It was just something that was unforeseen.

“We are still backing the lad and we want him to be part of the club, regardless of the injury.

“Discussions are ongoing with Motherwell and hopefully we can get a positive resolution,” The Celtic manager said to the press in Austria yesterday, as reported by Scottish Sun.

Celtic have various other transfers nearing completion – including the £7million signing of Christopher Jullien from Toulouse which is exciting The Celtic support – see HERE.

“We are getting close with Jullien. Hopefully, we can get something sorted in the next day or so. We have been tracking him for a while and we like what we see with him,” Lenny said.

“Negotiations have gone well, so it’s a case of getting the paperwork sorted.

“I like him. He’s a dominant type and very powerful. We are just looking for a bit more pace and power in the team to add a jag to the squad.

“He’s a quality player and he’s had a couple of really good years in the top echelons of French football.

“Hopefully, we can get it over the line, but it’s not done yet. If we get it done, we’d look to get him to Austria as soon as possible.”

And there could be another addition to Celtic’s French Foreign Legion with the Nice left back Romain Perraud a real possibility – see HERE.

And as we told at the start of this week, Irish youngster Luca Connell is set to join Celtic, although there has been late interest in him from Norwich City and Middlesbrough – see HERE.

Meanwhile Neil Lennon was delighted with his young players yesterday after their performance in the 6-1 win against SC Pinkafeld in the intense heat in Austria – see HERE.
