Kyogo earns UEFA recognition for excellent Ferencvaros goal

Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi has been awarded the Goal of the Group Stage by UEFA Europa League. The striker scored Celtic’s opener in the win over Ferencvaros back in October after a neat counter-attacking move by Ange Postecoglou’s Celts.

Kyogo himself would surely credit his teammate, Jota, for the exquisite pass that played him through. The ball was excellently weighted but the touch and finish were equally brilliant.

A Celtic statement praised the Japanese Internationalist for the recognition that the goal brings.

“Everyone inside Celtic Park was raving about Kyogo’s goal in the 2-0 win over Ferencvaros back on October 19 when the Japanese striker opened the scoring against the Hungarian champions with a truly wonderful strike.

“Well, it wasn’t only the Celtic Park crowd who were hailing the goal as it came out top in UEFA’s Goal Of The Group Stage in the Europa League.

“Jota’s pass for Kyogo also played a vital part in the stunning strike which gathered a monster 43 per cent of the vote for the 10 goals nominated by UEFA.

“The goal was a thing of beauty that started with Jota in the left-back position, he drifted into midfield and, from halfway inside the Celtic half, played a 50-yard ball to exactly inside halfway inside the Ferencvaros half.

“Kyogo took an excellent touch, and with his next touch the ball was on its way past the keeper and into the back of the net.

“Congratulations, Kyogo.”

Celtic will face Bodo/Glimt in the Round of 32 in the Europa Conference League after falling narrowly short of the next stage of the Europa League. The striker will be hoping that he can get himself fit for Sunday as Celtic take on Hibernian in the League Cup Final.

Since arriving in the summer, the player has been a revelation. He is hardworking, humble and extremely talented.  Celtic’s attacking prowess stems from the trickery and movement of the attacker, opening up defences with ease. He is a real miss from the starting XI.
