SPEAKING on BT Sport last night, outspoken pundit Michael Stewart – who was working at the Motherwell v Celtic game because of the absolute lack of backbone at BBC Scotland (failing to stand up for a colleague who dares speak the uncomfortable truth, as indeed Jim Spence previously discovered, losing his job as a result) – said that Celtic’s French striker Odsonne Edouard would walk into the current Manchester Utd team.

“Manchester United don’t have a striker, Odsonne Edouard would walk into that team,” Stewart said and was backed up entirely by former Scotland manager and Manchester Utd star Gordon Strachan. Challenged on this by BT Sport anchorman Darrell Currie, Stewart was asked if the Celtic striker – who has now scored 24 goals this season – is better than the likes of Martial and Mason Greenwood, and Stewart was clear in his response: “Yeah, I think so,” Glasgow Times reported.
Strachan reckons that if Celtic sell Edouard for big money he is capable of by-passing a move to the likes of Southampton – who in recent times have done very well shopping in the East End of Glasgow signing the likes of Fraser Forster (Brengland’s Number 1 for anyone in Brengland looking in) , Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and more recently Stuart Armstrong – and instead head to one of Brengland’s “top teams”.
And Strachan likened Odsonne Edouard to a very special player, one of the all-time greats in the game, Dennis Bergkamp.
“He reminds me of Dennis Bergkamp. He can do what Bergkamp could do, perhaps at a younger age.
“You look at the players who have left Celtic. Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, they’ve gone to Southampton. No disrespect to Southampton but Edouard can go to the top, a top team, right now.”
And Chris Sutton made a comparison that’s a little bit closer to home for the Celtic Support when he compared Edouard to none other that Sutton’s old striking partner, the King of Kings himself, Henrik Larsson.
“Celtic brilliant tonight… some of the football tonight breathtaking Edouard the closest thing to Larsson I’ve seen in a Celtic jersey… so unselfish, a team player, deadly finisher,” Sutton said.
Edouard’s teammates are also in awe of his ability. “He’s incredible.”
“Give him the ball and he’ll make something happen!”

Edouard’s team-mates are also in awe of his outstanding footballing ability. “He’s incredible,” Callum McGregor said last night. “Give him the ball and he’ll make something happen!”

Something that Celtic tend to do after a transfer window closes in announce new long term contracts for the star players already at the club. No news could be better than Celtic announcing a new long term contract for Henrik like Odsonne Edouard, the striker who Gordon Strachan reckons is very similar to Dennis Bergkamp.
