“Leeds not big enough for Postecoglou” – BBC Pundit

There has been a raft of media conjecture in the days since American, Jessie Marsch was relieved of his duties as first team coach of Leeds United. The English Premier League side have been struggling badly of late and decided to fire the trigger on the former Red Bull Salzburg boss this week.

The usual hot air has been wafting through the ether of the Scottish footballing world via those in the mainstream media and tabloid newspapers who are all desperate to see the back of Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou since he has built a club back up from the ground following one of the darkest days in its entire history.

Building a title-winning side from scratch when he arrived in his first year in Scottish football, he managed to make it a double by winning the League Cup into the bargain. It has been a terrible shock for those of a blue persuasion and many are itching to get the Greek-Aussie out of his post at Parkhead.

So pathetic is their attempts, whenever a post becomes available down South or a manager is said to be on a shoogly peg, they instantly fire up odds with Postecoglou’s name on these lists, which are more often than not quite extensive. Rest assured though, someone will be dragged out to talk up the merits of the Premier League and how paltry and weak our own footballing environment is in comparison.

Sometimes you wonder if they actually want to promote the game up here. Then again, it might just be they don’t want to promote Celtic in a positive light. Hardly a new concept in this country right enough as we have seen on numerous occasions throughout the years. Whenever Celtic Football Club can be kicked, an only willing and able media are there to ensure its done to the best of their collective ability.

However, one has surprisingly broke rank and revealed that Leeds United are nowhere near a big enough pull for Ange Postecoglou. The man in question is BBC and PLZ Soccer pundit, Richard Forster who has came out and rubbished the links being represented in force throughout the Scottish mainstream media.

He was on PLZ Soccer talking about the links and declared that Celtic is just too big for Ange to just up sticks and head for a relegation zone battle in England. He said: “To me success is not going down to Leeds, with respect to them, and saying: ‘remember the time we finished ninth!'”

They won’t like that too much, will they?

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. Maybe Ange will go some time, but I think we should try to hold him for as long as possible, and I really do think we should insist on him seeing a season out, and not doing a Brendan Rodgers on us. Preferably though, Ange, stay with us for another 10 years.

  2. Leeds not big enough???. C’mon for heavens sake. I realise the man is talented but at the moment he is managing a club which is in a two horse race in a mickey mouse league. Not sure he would do half as good in the prem. Just get real

  3. Leeds might be a big club in Yorkshire or England but on global scale Leeds are mere minnows compared to Celtic. Even Sevco are a bigger club than Leeds on a global scale and Sevco are only 11 years old!!
Two horse race? Like the EPL in the Fergie/Wenger days? Or Jose/Fergie? Klopp/Pep?
Spanish football must be shite as well. It’s usually Barca or Real who win that two horse race. France? Worst league in Europe with their one horse PSG race. Leeds are has beens that never were. Even when Leeds were England’s top team they were no match for Celtic. European Cup semi final 1970 when a big global team beat a small Yorkshire club who had 5 or 6 Scotsmen playing for them.
