Leigh Griffiths considering options as striker ponders life after Celtic

Leigh Griffiths is weighing up his options following his release by Celtic after rejecting a deal at Dundee. The 31-year-old had his deal terminated at the end of January but subsequently, this looked to end the deal with James McPake’s Dundee.

McPake, who is friends with Griffiths, offered the striker a deal to remain at Dens Park but the striker knocked back the first offer, with other clubs now eyeing a move.

Dundee face are said to face competition from Premiership opposition St Johnstone and St Mirren have been touted as other managers fancy the opportunity to try get the best out of the goalscorer. Although, as per The Courier, St Johnstone’s Steve Grieve denied that they would be signing him.

St Mirren’s Jim Goodwin spoke about the possibility of signing Griffiths as an alternative to the injured Eamonn Brophy.

Falkirk are said to have offered Griffiths £1500-per-week in order to help push them towards the Championship. The Bairns face opposition from their League One counterparts Queen’s Park, who want the ex-Scotland Internationalist. The opportunity to play in Glasgow would probably appeal to Griffiths, even if it represents a significant drop in standard.

It will be interesting to see where Griffiths ends up, especially when you consider the level that he was competing at just a few years ago. The player has no one to blame but himself for a rapid downfall but he is still a young man with ability, who should be focusing on getting himself back to his best.
