Leigh Griffiths latest as Dundee set to decide on striker’s future

Leigh Griffiths is set to find out whether he will remain at Dundee or be sent back to Celtic, according to a report. The Courier report that the Dens Park outfit will consider whether or not to send the 31-year-old back after an underwhelming first half of the season.

Dundee are unimpressed with his contribution and McPake confirmed talks had taken place with Celtic regarding ending the loan deal. This could mean that Griffiths finds himself one step closer to a Celtic Park exit, should his pal McPake pull the trigger on terminating his deal.

“We are in discussions at the minute regarding that as a club internally and externally with Celtic as well.

“A decision will be made tomorrow.”

Griffiths has scored twice in thirteen appearances, including a stunning freekick against Aberdeen, but arriving with the talk of restarting his career appears to have cooled with Dundee looking to potentially reinvest the outlay on the ex-Hibee by sending him back to Glasgow’s East End.

The player, who scored 123 goals for Celtic, will know that there is almost no chance of him being offered anything going forward by Celtic and the fact that Dundee are not using him despite their struggles for goals is telling. He has been offered a number of chances in recent times but fitness issues have left him struggling for game time. The sideshow regarding his Instagram amplified concerns about whether Griffiths would take Celtic battle for the league seriously sparking a loan move just weeks after the decision to offer him an extension.

Celtic could have their own option to end Griffiths’ deal in place in the event that he returns to the club. The decision, one of the first under Postecoglou’s watch, will prove to be the wrong one. The manager wanted to give everyone a chance and when Griffiths let him down, he was quick to make it clear that he would not accept that while he was in charge.
